Album Review
Foundling
David Gray
2010
Rating: 6/10
I enjoyed Gray's last album, 2009's Draw the Line, so much that it would of taken something truly special to surpass it. Unfortunately, though brilliant in a few spots, Foundling falls short. It does not pack enough punch to save it from feeling laxadaisical.
The album has a sombre, meloncholy vibe. For John Frusciante fans, where as Draw the Line was a mixed bag of tempos, similar to "Shadows Collide with People", this album is more like "Curtains". That in itself is not a bad thing - "Curtains" was a brilliant album. The key difference is in the album lengths. Curtains was sparesly over thirty minutes while Foundling stretches over an hour (also over two discs). If Gray could of cropped down the album to even 45 minutes, with some of the weaker tracks gone, then I think it would of been stronger.
Tracks that do stand out to me are Forgetting, Fixative (For Bryan Pt. 2), Morning Theme, Holding On, and When I was In Your Heart.
